HISTORY

The Zeta Phi Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated was established on February 19, 1966. The Chapter was chartered by Zeta alumni members Hazel Brew, Sisie L. Johnson, Ella Frazier, Hattie Lyons, Bridjette Newton Perry, Leatrice Hogan, Velma Keller, and Annie Kelly. These Sorors saw the need to bring the Sorority's mission and programs to the as yet un-serviced city of Alexandria, Louisiana. The chapter has been an active member of the Alexandria and central Louisiana communities since its establishment and partners with numerous local agencies to provide community service, philanthropic giving, and outreach services. Over the last 50+ years, we have had an active working relationship with our constitutionally bound brothers, Delta Chi Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated, chartered Phi Upsilon Chapter as the first undergraduate sorority at Louisiana State University of Alexandria, and sponsors the Zeta Amicae of Alexandria Auxiliary as well as Zeta Youth Affiliates.

PHI UPSILON

Five young ladies made the ultimate the decision, and on October 26, 2015, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated was chartered on the campus of Louisiana State University of Alexandria, becoming the first Greek letter sorority to be chartered on the campus. In addition, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated was the first National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) organization to charter an undergraduate chapter within the Central Louisiana community. Phi Upsilon is the first undergraduate sorority and the first NPHC organization to charter a chapter on the campus of Louisiana State University of Alexandria.

ZETA AMICAE OF ALEXANDRIA

Amicae (Friends of Zeta) are women who may not meet the qualifications necessary to join the sorority or women in the community (or sisters or friends of Zetas) who have the willingness to function as a part of the sorority. As early as 1940, graduate chapters of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, had begun to realize the importance of the prestige, good will and cooperation of these women who for various reasons were not members of any Greek- letter organizations. These ladies render a valuable service to our chapter by serving in incentives that abide by the principles of our organization.

ZETA YOUTH AFFILIATES

The first clubs were formed in the 1950s for all youth involved with the sorority as Zetalites, Archonettes, or Amicettes. Participation increased quickly, and the clubs had to be divided into two groups. The high school girls kept the name of the Archonette Club. The younger girls became the Amicette Club. In the 1990s, the Pearlette Club was organized. The youth groups are designed to help girls grow culturally, socially, and educationally. Please contact our youth coordinator at zpzyouthcoordinator@gmail.com or click here for more information.
